Water access and activities



Fort Stevenson State Park:

There are two marinas located at Fort Stevenson State Park both under the management of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department.

De Trobriand Bay marina has a functional elevation range from 1828msl to 1854msl. Slip sizes range from 26 to 40 feet. This location can accommodate 44 dock slips and 4 buoyed moorings. Electricity is available for 44 dock slips.

The deep water marina, Garrison Bay, has a floor elevation of 1790msl and is host to 61 dock slips ranging in size from 26 to 56 feet in length. Garrison Bay marina provides a concession store, gas dock and pump out services. It does not currently provide electrical services. pdf formatSlip Rental Rates (pdf 208k)

Lake Sakakawea State Park

Lewis and Clark State Park:

Lewis and Clark State Park one marina with has 2 piers under the management of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department. Pier 1 has 30 boat slips ranging from 20 feet to 28 feet in length, all with a width of 12 feet. Pier 2 has 10 slips sized at 46 feet with 16 feet width, and 50 feet lengths with 20 feet width. The navigable level is 1830 feet msl. There is a rock breakwater to protect the slips and vessels at this location. Boat ramps

Park Details
Beaver LakeThe boat ramp is a one lane ramp with a courtesy dock. No swimming from or fishing is allowed on the courtesy dock. Designated parking and a vault toilet are located nearby.
Cross RanchBoaters can access the river at our Sanger boat ramp 2 miles southeast of the main campground. It is a one lane boat ramp with a courtesy dock. Two designated parking areas. No swimming from, fishing or lounging allowed on courtesy dock.
Fort StevensonThe park has 2 wide multilane concrete ramps. One at Garrison Bay and one at deTrobriand Bay.
Grahams IslandThe boat ramp is a four lane concrete ramp with courtesy docks serving all four lanes. The top elevation of the ramp is 1458’. The ramp is lighted and has parking for 150 boats and trailers. A vault toilet and fish cleaning station are located nearby.

Lake MetigosheTwo lane boat ramp that is open from spring until fall/winter freeze up. There are courtesy docks on each lane. Note: No slip or boat rentals available at this site.

Lewis and Clark A courtesy dock is available at the Marina Bay. No Wake Zone enforced. Idle speed only.

Canoe/kayak - rentals

Cross RanchYesYesThis park offers canoe and kayak rentals from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They offer a 7 or 9 mile trip from Washburn to the park's main campground or Sanger boat landing. There is also a 2 mile trip from the main campground to Sanger boat ramp. Trips are self guided. Life jackets are provided for adults and young children as well as paddles for rentals. Transportion is available canoers and canoes to Washburn landing for a $25 transport fee.
Fort StevensonYesYesIn addition to canoes and kayaks a 16 foot fishing boat available for rent. Call Garrison Bay Concession 701-337-5003 (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
Fort RansomYesYesRiver access and rentals are located just east of the Bjone House Visitor Center and Park Office. During the full service season we there is a floating dock and walk ramp (when river levels allow). A small parking lot is nearby.
Lake MetigosheYesYes Rentals available from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend and include paddles, life jackets and canoes/kayaks. There are tandem canoes as well as family canoes that can fit 2 adults and 2 smaller kids. We have 2 tandem as well as 2 single person kayaks. Folks can explore Lake Metigoshe, but have the opportunity to explore smaller lakes within the park that do not allow motorized boats. There is a canoe/kayak trail within the park; those interested should contact park staff for conditions.

Note: Sully Creek State Park has an unimproved area to launch canoes, kayaks or inner tubes.

Swim beaches

Park Details
Beaver LakeSand swim beach with buoyed and roped off swim area. No lifeguard, no shower house, no pets allowed in beach area, no glass bottles. Picnic area nearby. Beach area is closed after dark.
Grahams IslandA smaller wading/swim area is located along the south shoreline of the park. It has a sand/gravel bottom with a small beach. The area is marked with signage and buoys from mid-May to Labor Day. No lifeguard.
IcelandicSand swim beach with buoyed swim area. No lifeguard. Changing rooms, restrooms and beach area are closed after dark. Concession stand open weekends mid-May to Labor Day.
Fort StevensonSand swim beach with buoyed swim area. No lifeguard.
Lake MetigosheOpen daily from late May to September (daylight hours), no shower house, no lifeguards, no pets in beach area, no bottles, roped off area designates swim/wading area, picnic areas nearby.
Lake Sakakawea 
Lewis and ClarkThe beach located on the northeast side of the campground is for camping guests only. A Day Use beach is located on the south Day Use area. Pets and glass containers are not allowed on beach areas. No lifeguard. No fishing on beach areas.
