July 30-Aug. 2: North Country Trail Association annual conference. Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to explore the North Country National Scenic Trail in North Dakota during the 2009 Annual North Country Trail Conference hosted by the Sheyenne River Valley Chapter in Valley City. A full slate of outdoor activities is planned to include a full schedule of hikes, canoeing the Sheyenne, workshops, tours, and nightly entertainment. The conference will provide learning opportunities, networking, and fun-filled events for the whole family. Aug. 1-2: Great Planers Club fishing outing at Lake Sakakawea State Park.
Aug 1: CANDISC BICYCLE TOUR. The tour runs from Aug. 1 through Aug. 8. The Far East Tour will cycle the picturesque haunts of legendary Sitting Bull and the Dakota Territory Frontier Army between Lake Sakakawea and Dvils Lake. Aug. 7-9: Kids' Weekend at Icelandic State Park. An entire weekend totally devoted to kids with games entertaiment, contests and lots of excitement.
Aug. 8: TRAIN ROBBERY at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park starting at 5:30 pm. Watch the Fort Lincoln Trolley be robbed by the Dakota Territory's worst scoundrels. The event is open to the public and can be seen either by visiting the park or riding out on the trolley. Be prepared for some old west gun fights.
Aug. 14-15: Great Planers Annual Salmon Derby at Lake Sakakawea State Park.

Aug. 15: Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park SHEHEKE RETURNS Bicentennial Anniversary, 1809-2009, The Mandan Persevere: A Traditional Celebration
Aug. 15: Christmas in August at Grahams Island State Park. Come decorate your campsite and win prizes.
Aug. 20: Visitor Center Dedication at Turtle River State Park. A formal dedication of the new Visitor Center and celebration of the park's 75th anniversary.
Aug. 22: Birthday Blast at Turtle River State Park. Fun and games for the whole family in celebration of the parks 75th birthday.
Aug. 29: Beach Party at Fort Stevenson State Park. The Garrison Chamber of Commerce Beach party includes live bands and entertainment. Fun and food for all ages. Early ticket sales available. For more information call 1-800-799-4242.
