Frequently Asked Questions:
Where can I get the North Dakota Passport?
We’re glad that you are interested in getting a North Dakota Passport and traveling our beautiful state! Purchase a Passport in person at 14 state parks and recreation areas, 11 state historic sites and state museums, or order yours online.
What is the cost of the North Dakota Passport, and what’s included?
The Passport is available for $9.95 (plus tax) and comes with a bonus drawstring bag and crayons to use when transferring stamps at Passport Stations. The durable, smaller size makes it easy to keep in the family vehicle or carry on your adventures.
Are all state parks and state historic sites included in this book?
The Passport is intended to promote interesting state destinations throughout North Dakota, but not all are included. We’ve highlighted 13 state parks, four recreation destinations, and 19 state historic sites and museums to visit.
Where exactly do I find the stamps and Passport Stations at each location?
Each site has selected the best places for the Passport Stations, which are listed above under each location. During open hours, you can also have your Passport stamped at the information desk of certain parks and sites.
How do I transfer the stamp at a Passport Station?
When you arrive at the Passport Station post, find the corresponding page in your Passport for that location, and place the paper over the metal engraving. Use a writing utensil to draw back and forth over the top of the circular engraving. Use the crayons included with your Passport, or bring along a pencil for best results, especially during times of high heat.
Where can I find open hours and amenities at each stop?
The Passport lists amenities at each site and guides you to websites for open hours. Because visitation hours often change seasonally and with visitation trends, we recommend that you check the websites before heading out on your road trip for the most up-to-date information.
Is there a fee to enter the included parks and historic sites?
Some locations in the Passport do have a fee associated with them. The state parks operate on a $7 daily entrance permit or $35 annual permit. More information on entrance fees can be found here. State historic sites have varied entrance fees. Information on location fees can be found here: www.history.nd.gov/historicsites
I have completed my Passport book. What do I do now?
Congratulations! We hope you created some memorable experiences. Feel free to keep your book as a way to remember all of your adventures!
Can I enter another country with this Passport?
As much as we’d love to send you on an international adventure, we would rather show you the best of North Dakota! This North Dakota Passport will not help you enter another country, but some of these special places will bring you very close to the Canadian border! We encourage you to travel to all North Dakota destinations to learn about the great people, outdoor activities, beautiful landscapes, and historic places in our communities and regions. You’ll find some hidden gems within these pages.
