What are outdoor recreation leadership and facility grants?
Outdoor Recreation Leadership & Facility Grants are matching grants that provide funding in two areas. The first, Recreation Leadership Grants assist small communities without full time recreation staff to hire staff and develop professional recreation programs. The second, Outdoor Recreation Facility Grants offers assistance in developing outdoor recreation facilities throughout North Dakota.
What is the local funding commitment?
The Recreation Leadership Grant is a three year grant with a local funding commitment of 25 percent the first year, 50 percent the second and 75 percent the third and final year after which the community must fund the program locally. The Outdoor Recreation Facility Grants must be matched 50 percent locally.
Who is eligible?
Political subdivisions in communities with a population under 13,000 or larger communities which substantially serve communities with a population of 13,000 or less are eligible to receive funding for Recreation Leadership Grants. Any political subdivision is eligible to receive Outdoor Recreation Facility Grants.
How is funding received?
The project sponsor will not receive a cash grant at the time of project approval. Instead, the sponsor must pay the bills and then be reimbursed the state share of eligible expenses incurred. Reimbursement is not permitted for work that takes place prior to project approval.
Grant funding amounts.
Up to $100,000 is available for Recreation Leadership Grants and $140,000 for Outdoor Recreation Facility Grants in 2009.
How do I apply?
Applications and the Outdoor Recreation Leadership & Facility Grants Manual will be available on Sept. 1, 2009 with a Nov. 2 application submittal deadline.
