Take an historic walking tour of downtown Bismarck with the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department! The tour illustrates how today’s Bismarck has been a Capital in Farm Country for 700 years, with the unbroken agricultural heritage stretching back to the early Mandan and Hidatsa Indian nations.
The tour winds past oft-forgotten locations downtown where dramatic and heartwarming events happened. Sites include the old Northern Pacific Railway Depot, the Patterson Building, meeting points of the Non-Partisan League, Oscar Will’s Seedhouse, “Bloody Fourth Street,” and more.
The tour starts at Camp Hancock State Historic Site, 101 E. Main Street, at 10:00 am and will involve about a mile of walking. The tour typically lasts about an hour and ends at the Former Governors Mansion State Historic Site. Participation is free, and no RSVP is required.
