MANDAN, ND – The North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department has scheduled a prescribed burn at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park (Mandan) on May 2nd. The fire will only occur if the conditions are favorable. This prescribed burn will reduce the wildfire risk throughout the area and promote the restoration of the native prairie by removing old growth. Two sections of the park have been identified by the agency's natural resource division for the burn (maps attached). If the weather remains favorable the burn is scheduled to start at 11:00 am with an anticipated end time of 3:00 pm. The park asks any guests visiting the park tomorrow to use caution by keeping a safe distance from fire crews working in the area. Smoke in the area may be heavy at times, so we ask the public to avoid the park locations noted on the map.
