Lake Metigoshe State Park

Lake Metigoshe State Park is hosting a smaller, modified Wild Outdoor Women (WOW) event on February 19-21, 2021. The WOW event is for ladies over the age of 16 who are looking to learn or improve on skills associated with several of North Dakota's outdoor recreational activities. Women of all skill levels are encouraged to register and take advantage of this unique opportunity that enables them to try new recreational activities, gain confidence, try out equipment, refine skills and meet other outdoor enthusiasts.

Some of the event's activities include snowshoe lacing, tracking on snowshoes, carving spearfishing decoys, paper quilling, watercolor painting, ski shoeing, crocheting winter beanies and cross-country skiing. Lake Metigoshe State Park has partnered with the North Dakota Game & Fish Department, Bottineau Winter Park, INTENTional Yoga with Crystal, Val's Cyclery, and the Turtle Mountain Trails Association to offer a variety of additional activities, including fat tire biking, dark house spearfishing, snowshoe yoga, snowboarding, and tubing. Activities allow the time necessary for participants to try out equipment, learn various methods, develop skills related to each activity, and the time to enjoy it!

Participants have the option to register for a single session, multiple sessions, or take in all of the sessions throughout the weekend, making the event affordable as well as convenient for anyone who may want to participate in a portion of the weekend's event. Online registration opens at noon, December 16, 2020, via Ticketleap. Registrants purchase tickets representing the sessions, specific activities, and any desired meals for the event.

Complete event details, including a schedule of activities, activity descriptions, registration fees, can be found at https://bit.ly/2021WinterWOWInfo. Session fees range from $15-$130, depending upon the activity and affiliated costs.

The event will follow North Dakota Smart Restart as well as CDC guidelines. Under the ND Smart Restart guidelines and in partnership with local health officials, several modifications to the event will take place to support our participants, instructors, and staff's health and safety. The dorms will not be available for overnight use but will be available for participants to utilize as a space to warm around the indoor fireplaces as needed throughout the weekend. Grab and go meal options will be available for the weekends’ breakfasts and for Saturday's lunch. Participants should plan to bring masks to wear for all indoor sessions in addition to the outdoors in situations where proper distancing cannot be achieved. All activities will be limited to 8-16 participants, depending upon the activity, and no large gathering will occur. Although hand sanitizing stations will be available, participants are asked to bring their own. Anyone experiencing any COVID symptoms should not attend the event. Please know that all ticket sales are final; however, participants who can no longer attend the event can find a replacement to take over their participation.

Annie's House Adaptative Recreation Program offers a scholarship opportunity for women veterans with a 10 percent service disability or greater. Veterans interested in the opportunity should contact Rachael.Buss@annecenter.org. Also, a special thanks to Marie's, Starion Bank, and Souris River Telephone (SRT) for supporting this event.
