Icelandic State Park

Icelandic State Park is excited to be hosting Tayla Sessing, an artist and educator in Fargo, ND who has lived in ND her entire life. Tayla is an interdisciplinary artist with main interests in ceramics and teaching. She currently works at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo as a ceramic program assistant and teaching artist. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Tayla, find inspiration and craft your own ceramic planter during her residency at Icelandic State Park.

The Artist in Residency Program is a partnership between the ND Parks & Recreation Department and the ND Council on the Arts where artists are chosen to spend 7 or 10 days in a North Dakota state park. Its goal is to support North Dakota artists in creating art that showcases the hosting state park while providing opportunities for visitors to develop artistic skills and a deeper appreciation of the park-inspired artwork and the parks themselves.

Friday, August 5 at 7 p.m.
Meet Tayla at the Wildwood Trailhead to take a creative hike in which one will find inspiration for landscape paintings and textures. Air-dried clay will be used to create texture imprints that inspire participants.

Saturday, August 6 from 7-9 p.m.
All ages are welcome to a hands-on workshop to create small planters ideal for succulent plants. The workshop will take place at the Picnic Shelter. After creating your planter, show off your painting skills and inspiration by painting your planter with acrylic paint.

The Artist in Residency Program is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. These events are free of charge however a daily or annual park vehicle pass is required to enter the state park.
