The next time frame to complete a qualifying hike opens this Sunday, March 14 and remains open until March 28. A number of the North Dakota state parks are hosting St. Patrick's Day-themed events in the coming weeks, so come wearing your green and get another hike closer to completing the 12 Months-12 Hikes Challenge!


Full Snow Moon Candlelight Hike

Fort Stevenson State Park is offering a special outdoor event on February 27. Experience a candlelit trail under the full moon in February known as the Snow Moon. Park staff will provide candle luminaries to light the approximately one-mile trail, illuminated from 6-7:30 p.m.

Dickens Geocache

Come out ready to geocache. Twelve ornaments are hidden at Fort Stevenson State Park during the Annual Dickens Village Festival in Garrison, ND. Each Friday of the festival, GPS coordinates of four geocaches containing an ornament are published, each ornament is the first to find the prize. The park asks that only one ornament per family is collected. Coordinates are posted at geocaching.com and on the Fort Stevenson State Park Facebook and Instagram pages. @fort.stevenson.

Fall Colors Hike

Hike the “Fall Colors Hike,” the ninth in our 12 Months-12 Hikes Challenge. Bring your camera and get some breathtaking views of the fall foliage happening right in your backyard at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.

This three-mile hike will be a moderate hike on the multi-use trails. This is not a stroller friendly hike. The self-guided hike will follow the Little Solider Trail beginning and ending at the Visitor Center.
